When choosing any detector for the beach, it goes without saying that you want a machine that’s fully waterproof and submersible – which most detectors are not. If you plan to do most of your hunting in and around salt water, you’ll need a specialty machine. For all purpose coin and jewelry hunting, stick to a single frequency VLF detector when first starting out. These are built more for salt water hunting and gold prospecting. This may be the biggest factor of them all, especially when you’ve never tried a metal detector.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to cover large, open areas like beaches and farm fields, a larger coil might be a better option. The only real advantage it has over the DD (in my opinion) is that it can be easier to pinpoint your target.
High-frequency metals such as gold register a high reading whereas low frequency like iron will fall lower on the scale. All metal will obviously detect everything, full discrimination will ignore low-value targets like iron, and tone discrimination will emit a different tone for each find.
If you’re relic hunting, take a note of the exact place because a historical record is helpful to archaeologists should that relic prove interesting or unusual. When that glorious ‘beep’ calls out, it’s time to pinpoint exactly where the signal is coming from. It needs to be sufficiently close to the soil or sand so the magnetic field can penetrate, but not so low that you bash the sensitive coil on stones and clods of earth. Sweep the machine side to side in front of your feet. Antenna – located at the base, it’s also known as the coil.
Without getting into too much detail, DD coils will get you better detection depth and deal with ground mineralization better than a concentric. These machines will punch through ground minerals like salt and iron and will report on all metal objects without the ability to discriminate. If you want the best gold prospecting detector, go with a Minelab. They can’t be beaten. You can also use the same machine for all of your hunting as opposed to the PI where you should only really use it for beach hunting. The benefit to using a multi-frequency detector in salt water is that you can discriminate out unwanted targets.
Rented metal detectors are generally good quality brands so you’ll have a better time of it. Some detectors give out different tones when they hit iron or gold for example. Practice in your yard first, it’s helpful if you bury different objects such as trash, gold, and coins to figure out the best technique for your machine.
It was a pleasure doing business with you and I will recommend your fine business to my other detecting buddies. I just want to thank Sondra and the rest of the gang for my Minelab Explorer SE. Yesterday I took my Garrett Ace 250 out for the first time to some local parks.
The new Meat Pump Pipeline Metal Detector is optimized for inspecting high viscosity meats transported through an enclosed pipe. Custom manufactured to suit any application, the Stealth full report has high sensitivity levels to ensure the detection of the smallest ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel contaminants. We offer the highest levels of service in the industry but we also want to offer you the best deals too, so we will match the price of any genuine UK Metal Detector retailer. This type of Haarslev vertical metal detector is fully automatic, and detects any metal present when the material falls through a non-ferrous pipe.
